The picture to the left is probably the most famous out of all the photos taken by NASA. Eagle Nebula was the name given to this picture. It was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in the year 1995. When scientists first received this picture they thought that the area pictured was going to be the birthplace of a new star formation. So the picture was nicknamed Pillars of Creation. But newer technology proved that the Nebula was the exact opposite of what they thought it was. When the Hubble Telescope got its new infrared cameras they showed that the Eagle Nebula had little to no material that could be used to create a star.

The picture to the right is of Planetary Nebula Menzel 3. Also known as the Ant Nebula. When astronomers saw this picture of a dying, sunlike star they knew that our sun would have the same fate. But it would be more complex and interesting than they had ever thought.

This image of a galaxy was created by 342 separate observations by the Hubble Space Telescope. The light from these galaxies were halfway to Earth before Earth even existed.

This is a picture of a medium size galaxy. The galaxy pictured orbits the Milky Way. There are 20 billion stars in this galaxy.

This is a normal galaxy but its just on its side. It looks a little like Saturn.

There was a spiral in the picture but it was broken up when a recent burst of star births hit it.

This is a picture of the sun taken by a camera on the SOHO telescope. SOHO stands for solar and hemispheric observatory.

Today we can see the remains of an explosion of a supernova in the constellation Taurus. Astronomers from China recorded this event in 1054.
