Sirius

This is the brightest star. It is in the constellation Canis Major. This constellation is supposed to represent one of the two dogs (This dog being the largest) that Orion, the hunter owned. As the earth turns the doge seem to follow their master across the sky.

Canopus

This is the second brightest star. It is in the constellation Carina which is said to be the most impressive constellation. Carina represents a ship's keel with Canopus being the rudder. This part of the ship lies in part of the Milky Way. In ancient Greek times this constellation was much bigger. But over time this constellation has been made smaller.

Alpha Centauri

A mythical beast with legs of a horse and the upper body of a man is called a centaur. That is what this star is part of. This constellation is called Centaurus. It can be found in the southern part of the Milky Way. This centaur was called Chiron, it tutored the god's children.

Arcturus

This constellation is called Bootes. The picture is of a man herding a bear. It's ironic because the brightest star in this constellation, Acturus, is Greek for bear guard.
