The Shih Tzu is a great pet but it does have a few problems that run in the breed. Some of these are more serious than others and some may be more prevalent in a certain family than others. This is common though for most breeds. |

| Here are some of the problems that you may encounter: umbilical hernia, breathing problems, pinched nostrils, eyes that jut out of the sockets, and some liver problems. The umbilical hernia is similar to an out side belly button and can be repaired when you get your dog fixed. breathing problems can be because of their short snout and pinched nostrils can be grown out of. If it's eyes jut out then you just have to be a little more careful with their faces around objects that stick out. Finally, liver problems, a problem that can cause death if untreated by a vet. These are probably the most common problems you will find in the breed. | |

| Besides health problems your Shih Tzu will need a lot of grooming. They will need to be brushed daily for about a half hour at a time. This helps to prevent knots in their coats. you also will have to bathe them about once a week since they have hair and not fur for their coats. Like us their hair does not shed and will need to be cut to keep it at the desired length you want. These things will help to keep you dog happy, healthy, and their coats looking beautiful. | |
