Your Shih Tzu should be trained early and have been taking care of since the moment you brought it home. Your grown pup or grown dog should be fed twice a day every day. Their nails should also be trimmed every once in a while to keep them from getting too long. For the coat care go to the page on grooming. |

Your puppy needs to be taught right from wrong at an early age. This just makes it allot easier in the long run and will save you many headaches along the way. To train your puppy you should use small treats that your puppy will only get if they do something that needs to rewarded. This lets the dog know that they are in the right when you give it to them. You should first praise them then make them to sit or calm down when you give them the treat. This praises then and will help you to keep them under control if they start to get out of hand. If your dog or puppy does something bad a verbal disciplining is all that is needed. If you hit you Shih Tzu it will become afraid of you and will not trust you very easily. You should also put them in a time out either in a cage or enclosed space. This teaches them that they will get consequences for misbehaving. All of these Things will help you to gain the trust, control, and train your dog. If you do not train your dog you will find it very difficult to break them of the habits. This requires a lot of time and effort. Training them the first time is a whole lot easier.
