Van Morrison was born George Ivan in Belfast, Ireland. His parents were both into music and he started to learn the guitar and saxophone at age 12.

He changed his name at 15 and quit school to become a professional musician with the Monarchs. Their first single was "Boozoo Hully Gully".

His first single album, "Moon dance", released the singles "Moon dance", "Tupeio Honey", and "It's too late to stop now".

Because of his divorce to his wife in 1973, he went back to Ireland to live and write songs, which were put on the "Veedon Fleece" album. Morrison had many hit albums over thirty years.
