Eric Clapton was born Eric Clapp in 1945 in Ripley, Surrey. He was raised by his grandparents. They bought Clapton his first guitar at age 14. Little did he know, he was soon to become the UK's first guitar hero.
Clapton moved around from band to band and didn't stay in one place too long.
For example
Roosters - 1963
Yard birds - 1964
Cream - 1966 - 1968
and others like Blind Faith and Delaney & Bonnie.
Patti Boyd was one of Clapton's inspirations. He wrote "Layla", which came off of Clapton's first solo album
"Eric Clapton", and "Wonderful Tonight" about her. She was married to George Harrison, The Beatles, and later married Eric.
Clapton later had become involved with drugs and they nearly killed him. He sold many of his beloved guitars. After the drug addiction, he had a problem with alcohol. None the less, many successful albums show his complete recovery and increasing popularity. He released "Unplugged" in 1992, and it was one of his most successful albums.
