Have you ever wondered what your cat was trying to tell you?  They make all different sounds and noises to express how they feel.

The Meow

Kittens and cats meow to get attention, or to just say "hi".  Some cats meow when they want food, or something else.

Anxiety Call

Kittens will cry when they feel scared, or scream to find their mother.  A little kitten might he hungry, cold, or attacked when they cry.  Then mom comes to the rescue and all is well.

Purring in Bliss

Cats and kittens purr loudly when they are happy, content, and cozy.  The purring sound comes from inside the chest, not the voice box.  Mothers purr when their babies are near and when they drink  her milk.

Hissing

Kittens rarely hiss (they just cry), but if a grown cat feels frightened, they will hiss.  Mothers hiss at intruders and  will protect her young.  When a cat hisses, he will breathe hot air.  Then he is ready if an attack is needed.

Rumbling Growl

Cats create an angry growl when they are irritated, or annoyed.  They might be scared of an unwanted intruder, or they could be in pain.  If your cat makes this noise, it is best to leave him/her alone.
