/Here are 20 things you probably never knew about Friends.

 

1. The set where "Friends" is taped is said to be haunted.  It is one of the oldest stages on the Warner Bros. lot. 

 

2. Each episode uses about 30 to 50 extras.  James Michael Tyler (Gunther) was an extra in season one.  He got a name after his first spoken role ("yes").

 

3. The wardrobe department has an entire room full of handbags.

 

 

4. The artwork at Central Park is changed every 3 episodes.

 

5. The shop across from Central Park, "Dottie and Herman's Deli" is named after Marta Kaufman's (co-creator) relatives.  "Free Belina Records" is producer Kevin Bright's childhood favorite.  

 

6. The electrician on the set (Paul Swain) draws the artwork on the magnadoodle board on Joey's door.  Sometimes the picture  has to do with the episode.  Sometimes it has in inside joke with the crew.

 

7. Monica and Joey's refrigerators actually work (a TV rarity).

 

8. The show goes through 32 pots of coffee on the show a day, and over 100 cases of water a week.      

  

9. Phoebe has performed 25 original songs on the show.

 

10.The newspapers near the payphone at Central Park are 6 months old.

 

11. 30,000 feet of film is used to tape one episode of "Friends"

 

12. The art department updates the food in Monica's kitchen cupboards weekly.

 

13.  Monica and Chandler's kitchen has 7 spatulas in plain view.

 

14. The show orders pizza twice a night for the studio audience members.

 

15. When the original Magna-doodle wore out the prop department had to find one on "eBay" to match the original.

 

16. Most of the copy on the Central Park is the original copy from the first season.

 

17. The show spends $1,700 a week on light bulbs or "globes"

 

 

18. Each script goes through 5 drafts.

 

19. It takes 366,000 watts of electricity to light all the sets.
