The Construction of PNC Park began in winter of 2001. The main reason that the park was built was because the Pirates were financially low. If a new stadium was not built in the next year for the organization, the Pirates threatened to leave the city. So, after long discussions and meetings, the organization decided to build a new ballpark. The North Shore of Pittsburgh needed remodeled and completely redone due to the state that it was in during that time. PNC Park was built on the North Shore along with Heinz Field (Steelers Stadium). As time went by, the North Shore started to become a center of interest for many Pittsburghers. PNC Park was the first double Decker in Pittsburgh since old Forbes Field. The Park was designed as old fashioned and the lights were designed after Forbes Field. The grass that was planted was Kentucky Bluegrass and other mixed types of grasses. It is known that every seat in the ballpark has a great view of the field, and for the most part, that is true. Every Seat is tilted slightly directly towards the pitcher's mound. The construction moved fairly quickly and it was finished by April 9, 2001 which Willie Stargell's death date. PNC Park is considered the best ballpark in America because of its architecture and great seating! |
