The movie begins when the evil Jafar trying to open the cave of wonders, but can't because he isn't the "diamond in the rough."  So Jafar starts to look for the right person.  By a magical spell, Jafar discovers that the "diamond in the rough" is a street rat, Aladdin.

Meanwhile, Jasmine, the princess of Agrabah is arguing with her father.  She is coming up to the age when she must marry a prince, but she feels that she should marry for love instead.  So one night she runs away. 

In the city Jasmine meets Aladdin.  They fall in love but then Jafar comes to take the "diamond in the rough" (Aladdin) away.   So Jasmine doesn't go looking for Aladdin Jafar tells Jasmine that Aladdin has been beheaded when really he is below her in the palace dungeon.  While there, Aladdin meets a beggar (who really is Jafar in disguise) .  He leads Aladdin the cave of wonders and Aladdin goes in.  

His pet monkey, Abu takes a jewel from the cave and it begins to crumble.  When it looks like Aladdin and Abu are going to be stuck in a cave they discover a magic lamp.  Aladdin rubs the lamp and a genie comes to life.  The genie tells them they can make three wishes.  But first the genie got Aladdin and Abu out of the cave.  

The first wish is to be a prince so he can marry Jasmine.  Meanwhile Jafar is trying to persuade Jasmine to to marry him so he can inherit the power.  But Jasmine denies Jafar.  And she also says  no to Aladdin as Prince Ali.

Aladdin uses his second wish to get him out of Jafar's plan to kill him.  Aladdin becomes greedy with the lamp but before he can use his last wish Iago, Jafar parrot, steals it.  Now Jafar has the power.  Jafar wishes to be sorcerer and tries to kill Aladdin again.  But Aladdin tells Jafar genies are the most powerful people.  So Jafar wishes to be a genie and becomes trapped inside a lamp.  Finally, the Sultan lets Jasmine marry Aladdin.

 The cast consists of Jonathan Freeman (Jafar), Gilbert Gottfried (Iago), Brad Kane and Scott Weinger (Aladdin), Linda Larkin and Lea Salonga (Jasmine), Douglas Seale (Sultan), Frank Welker (Abu), and Robbin Williams ( Genie).  The producers were Ron Clemens and Jon Musker.  The movie was released on November 25, 1992 and the running time is 90 minutes.  There are 2 sequels to this movie, The Return of the King and Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
