In order to ski cross country skiers wear long thin skis in order to be able to move quickly along flat ground. Their bindings (where the foot is attached t the ski) are only connected in the front, and they wear soft boots. |
| One of the other competitions is the ski jump. Like the cross country event there are many different lengths. the common ones are 70 m, 80 m, and 90 m. this event is only a single person event. |

This was an add for the winter Olympics in the 1932 season. Posters have always been a popular way to advertise for the Olympic games, especially the winter games. |
The way in which you win in the ski jump event is going the farthest after leaving the launch ramp. The events are named by the length of the launch ramp. A skier will form their body into an extremely tight tuck. That is when the skier hunches forward, in order to become more aero dynamic. |
| Another one of the popular Nordic events is the biathlon. The biathlon is a more complicated event in the fact that it involves two skills, cross country skiing and rifle shooting. Biathletes are some of the most athletic groups of people. In order to compete in this event you need to be able to shoot six small targets from ar distances and then ski to the next set of targets. |

If a biathlete is to miss a target than they have to do an extra lap for every target missed. these extra laps could cost them the whole competition since a lap could take up to 3 minutes. One of the best biathletes in the world today, and yesterday, is Yongjun Song of China. |
