| Shooting is like passing. It requires accuracy. But shooting also calls for a very powerful kick. You have to practice taking hard shots at the goal, using the instep to gain the most power. Running up to a ball, place your non-kicking foot next to the ball and strike the ball with the laces of your kicking foot. As you shoot, concentrate on keeping your ankle rigid and following through with your swinging leg. After the shot, land on your kicking foot. Like passing, shooting can be done using either foot. Players also can shoot with the outsides of their foot. But most soccer players prefer shooting with the instep of their strongest leg and they practice their best shot over and over. Some young players have trouble getting their foot underneath the ball to lift it into the air. Practice this by concentrating on hitting the ball with the correct part of the foot and then following through. |
