Soccer players move the ball on the field by dribbling the ball with their feet. Running while controlling the ball with your feet takes lots of practice. To improve your skills, dribble while jogging. With each step touch the ball with either the laces or the outside or your feet. Once you are comfortable with jogging while dribbling, you are ready for the next step.
The next step is to dribble the ball while sprinting, then start to change speeds. Then finally try changing directions. It's important to practice this, because this is how to keep possession of the ball in a game. The best way to lose a defender when they're trying to get the ball is to use a fake. To perform a fake, lunge your body to one side, which will move the defenders body also, then quickly touch the ball to the other side and sprint to the ball. Practice this also.
