The first World Cup soccer trophy was designed be a French sculptor, Abel Lafleur.  It was later named in his honor of the president of FIFA Jules Rimet.  The trophy was stolen before the 1966 tournament in England and was found in a park by a dog named Pickles.  Brazil was presented with the trophy to keep in 1970, but it was stolen again and has not been seen since.

The First World Cup:

Uruguay offered to pay travel and accommodation expenses to the 13 visiting teams at the first world cup.  Only four European teams made the long journey joining seven South American teams.
