Forwards are usually taller then the other players on the team. Forwards can usually jump higher have a stronger box out position. The picture to the right is a picture of a slam dunk. Anyone on the team can slam dunk a ball, they just have to be able to reach he rim. |

When you play basketball you have to have a hard strong rebounding position. When a shot goes up, no matter who shot the ball either on your team or the opponents you must box out. If you have the correct "boxing out form" you will have your opponent behind you, stuck fighting for the ball. If your lucky you might even get a foul called on her/him, for over the back. |
The girl is now jumping up in the air to make sure she has the best chance of getting a re-bound. Forwards are usually the ones who are put underneath of the basketball because they are taller and have a better chance of getting the ball compared to a small guard. |

The girl in the picture is a good re-bounder, she go the ball and now has it above her head getting ready to look for the open pass. |
Now that the girl has boxed out, got the re-bound, put it above her head, now it's time to look for the open pass to the point guard or even a guard who is a good ball handler. |

The diagram at the right will show you where forwards and centers stand on the court. Forwards stand underneath the basketball, and the centers can either stand under the basket or in the center of the key. |
Forwards are usually taller then guards but not as tall as centers. Forwards play at the side of the court between the free throw line and the side line. They should be good scorers, should be able to catch offensive rebounds and they should be able to score easily from the side of the court. |

Centers are usually the tallest players on the team and they play closest to the basket. Centers should be good at catching rebounds and scoring close to the basket. |
