Ashanti's full name is Ashanti Douglas. She was born on October 13, 1980, in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York. She is now a very successful singer at age 22. |

Ashanti started singing at age 6 when she joined a gospel choir. She began her singing career in 1994 when she performed at a local talent show and was discovered by someone from the music industry. She signed with a management team and soon started getting better gigs which led to an opportunity to work with multi-platinum producer, Irv Gotti of Murder Inc. Records. |

Ashanti has performed in several concerts with artists such as Nelly and Ja Rule. She has many connections and friends that have become almost family in the music business. Ashanti's idol, is close to home. In fact it is so close, that is her own mother. Ashanti saw her Mother take sacrifices for her family that was painful, agonizing, and dramatic. But through it all, they got the hard times. Ashanti turns to her Mother in times of need. |
