Captain George Vancouver was who they called The Man On The Mountain because he lived on the mountain. Everybody told him to leave because the they knew it was going to erupt but he refused. He died that morning. |

This picture, along with the sequence of the eruption was taken by Gary Rosenquist. He was there that day and was the only one who made it out alive. He said he could feel the heat through the back of his car he was leaving. |
