| Attacking block~ A block which attempts to put the ball straight do into the attackers' court |
| Attacker~ Any player who serves, smashes or blocked the ball into the opponents' court |
| Back court~ The area of the court between the attack-line and the base-line |
| Dig~ The act of playing the ball below waist-height, with one or two hands |
| Dump~ When the ball is placed over or to the side of the opposing block |
| Cover~ The act of protecting any area of the court to which the ball may travel. Its important that back-court players are ready to cover a smash made by their own front-court players because a rebound often goes to an unguarded part of the court. |
| Double fault~ When players from the opposing sides commit a foul simultaneously. |
| Dead ball~ A ball that is no longer in play-either after the winning of the point a side-out if play is suspended by the referee or for a time-out |
| Contacted ball~ A ball that is contacted in any was by the player. |
| Court~ The entire playing area but excluding the free zone |
