| This is the
tennis serve. It is an overhand serve as you can see. This
serve can be made from either a standing-still position or by stepping
into the serve to provide more power. If you do 'step' into the
serve, make sure your foot is not outside the service area at the moment
of contact.
Ensure your body is square and facing the net. Have your feet shoulder-width apart and if you serve with your right hand, have your left leg forward. Throw the ball up vertically about 1-1.5cm above your head. Your serving hand should be posed ready to hit the ball. The ball is hit with the open hand and with the arm completely straight; this will help to keep the trajectory of the ball as flat as possible. Keep the arm straight as you follow-through. Your momentum will carry you forward and on to the court and in to play. The whole serving action must be in one continuous movement. Don't forget, get into the game as quickly as you can. |
