Pitt Panthers

This page will discuss the #5 ranked Pitt Panthers.  They burst onto the scene last year with a 29-6 record and a sweet sixteen appearance.  Only an overtime loss to Kent State in the regional semifinal prevented them from going any farther. They return all five starters including Julius Page (right).  Julius is the defensive stopper for Pitt who also has a good outside game and can take it to the rack with ease.  So far this season Pitt is 12-1 with their lone loss coming to ranked Georgia.  Their wins  include an incredibly easy win against arch-rival #238 ranked Penn State 82-60.  In another game they defeated another team from the Big Ten Ohio State 69-49.  On the premiere of Big Monday the Panthers showed they are the team to beat in the Big East dominating #6 Notre Dame 72-55 at the Peterson Events Center.
This is a picture of Brandin Knight.  Brandin is the second ranked point guard in the country behind Jason Gardner of the Arizona Wildcats.  He scored fifteen points, dished out seven assists, and grabbed four boards a game last year.
Brandin Knight is a consensus All-American.  Here he drives to the hoop in a game against Miami last year.  The Panthers lost that game in double overtime.  However the Panthers got revenge on the Hurricanes as they beat them in the semi-finals of the Big East Tournament in New York City.  The Panthers ended up losing in the Final to the UConn Huskies in double overtime.
Here is Brandin again this time posing for Sports Illustrated in a Retro Jersey.  Brandin was selected as one of the five best old school players in the country.
