O'Brien's World of Sports

There are many different sports in the world. I have chosen three main sports and a page full of random sports. Sports have been around probably longer than anyone can remember. The first Olympic games were held in Olympia. The women were not allowed to view the games since men did not were clothes there. In mid-evil times the popular sports were jousting. This event was a kind of contest between the kings. Sports were then kind of forgotten. They also became very gruesome. In ancient Rome there was a very popular sport called gladiator fights. These were where slaves, Christians, and criminals were thrown to the lions. Sometimes the battle in the coliseum would be flooded and they would have naval battles to please the vulgar crowd. In the 1900's there were sports to be gambled on. One of these was putting a terrier dog in a pen full of rats. People would bet on how long it took to eat all the rats. Sometimes two dogs would be put together and kill to the death. Then they were revived around the civil war. Only a hundred years later and we have baseball, basketball, and football. There are also great, new sports emerging like lacrosse, fencing (which was invented in franc around the time of king Louise 3rd), and chess. Chess is not really a new sport cause it has been played for centuries. I should say more people are becoming good at chess, better than before. |
