History Of MLB
| It all started, with a ball, a bat, and four bases. Some people called the sport "Town Ball" after the Revolutionary War. The 1840's came around, and Alexander Cartwright, along with Daniel "Doc" Adams, of the "Knickerbocker" Base Ball club invented the first set of rules for the game. After a while of playing the game with the first set of rules many people started calling the game "Baseball. A few years later, a guy named William A. Hubert came along, and invented the national leagues. The rules changed rapidly over the next few years and continued to evolve into pretty much how the game is played today by the 1900's. The sport became very popular, and was played only on weekends by men. This later turned into being played by women, boys, and girls of all ages from more than 100 different countries. | |

This is a baseball used in the early 1900's. The first baseballs, were very soft at first, but then players found that winding yarn more tightly around a rubber center, then covering it with tightly stitched leather made a harder ball that traveled farther and lasted longer in play. |
| This
is a bat used at the beginnings of baseball. Early bats did not have as
much tapering as today's bats, but their function was the same. From the
beginnings of baseball bats have pretty maintained their unique shape:
thick at the top, and tapering to a narrow middle.
