Morphs

Snakes come in many beautiful color schemes.  These color schemes are known as morphs throughout the snake enthusiasts.  You may have seen the yellow snakes.  Those are also called albino.  There are a ton of different morphs that can only be bred in captivity, and those are prized among snake enthusiasts.  Some snakes have sold for over $20,000.  Breeders are always looking to make the next big morph craze.

Normal

When I say normal, I don't mean that the other ones are odd or different.  By normal, I actually mean they are the most common.  "Why," you ask.  It is because they're gene is dominant and all of the other ones are recessive.  That simple.  If you're starting out, one of these will probably be the one you get first.

Axanthic

The axanthic ball pythons are one of the most prized ball pythons.  They have a black and white color to them because they lack yellow pigment.  The axanthic gene is recessive, so it is relatively rare.  They sell for about $7,000.

Albino

Albino is the lack of pigment.  This generates a yellow look to them.  As you can see, the picture on the right looks slightly different then the one on the left.  That is due to the fact that there are two different kinds of albino ball pythons.  The one on the left is the most common, so it is just called Albino.  Regular Albinos sell for about $2,000.  The one on the less is slightly less common.  They call them Lavender Albinos and they sell for about $5,000.

Platinum

The Platinum Ball Python is very new in the snake world.  It was just recently found in Africa for the first time.  It is just another recessive gene morph.  Since they are so new, they're price on the market is very unstable, but they can go for anywhere between $2,000 and $12,000.

PieBald

PieBalds are some of the oddest looking snakes on the market.  They have normal sections and other sections are white.  When they are born, those sections are pink.  With PieBalds, you can breed a number of new morphs, because if you do it right, you can get a PieBald with some design of another recessive morph in their colored sections.  All PieBalds amount of whiteness varies.  One could have nearly all white and another can have just a speck of it.  Nobody knows what makes it this way.  PieBalds sell for around $6,000.

Full Stripe

These ball pythons may seem very normal at first sight, but if you look closely, you will see a solid strip down the top of their backs.  There are two types of Full Stripes.  The gold stripe has a gold stripe down the top of their back (seen left).  The black stripe has a solid black stripe down their back (seen right).  At first, they were made by just lowering the incubation temperature about 5-10 degrees.  But this caused many defects.  They are now genetic though.

Snow

Snow Ball Pythons are one of the rarest of all the Ball Pythons.  They are relatively new, and were created first be N.E.R.D. (New England Reptile Dealers).  N.E.R.D. is a very prominant ball python breeder.  Snows are created by combining an Albino with an Axanthic, the result, no pigment.  They seem solid white.  They sell for about $20,000.
