F.A.Q.'s

The following is a compiled list of frequently asked questions concerning Ball Pythons:

Why are they called Ball Pythons?

Because they roll into a ball when they are startled.  They were originally known as Royal Pythons because when they lift their heads, it seems noble.  In fact, in the UK, they are still called Royal Pythons, but in the USA, they  are more widely known as Ball Pythons.

Is an Angolan Python a Ball Python?

No.  Although it may seem as though it is a new morph for a Ball Python, due to their very similar size and behavior, they are not Ball Pythons at all.  They are an entirely different species of Python.  Although, they make pets just about as well as Ball Pythons, they are not for beginners.  They cost between  $3,000 and $5,000.

What do CB, CH, and WC stand for?

CB stands for Captive Born, meaning they were brought into being by a breeder and raised in Captivity.  CH stands for Captive Hatched, meaning they went out and took some eggs from the wild, and then they raised them in captivity.  WC stands for Wild Caught, meaning they took a live snake from the wild and then sold it to you, the snake owner.

Should I feed my snake live or frozen mice?

You should always feed your snake frozen mice, but if you must, you can feed them live ones.  Also, if your snake refuses to eat frozen mice for longer than two months, instead of  feeding it live mice, try buying a live mouse and killing it yourself.  A good way to kill it without causing too much pain or guilt is to hit it against the wall in a paper bag.  Make sure to hit it very hard to fully kill the mouse.

Can Ball Pythons swim?

No, they cannot swim.  They will crawl through water but the cannot support themselves to a non-drowning position.

Can a Ball Python kill you?

No, they only grow to be about 6 feet, and they never get strong enough to strangle you.
