There are many different types of dolphins.  In this web page four of them will be described.

Dolphins are able to dive at great depths, and leap at great heights.  They may leap to avoid predators, or to show how powerful they are to females at mating time.  Dolphins' bodies are streamlined so they are able to swim at high speeds.  Their skin is very smooth and it helps them move easily throughout water.  Their skin also reduces heat loss.  Dolphins use their powerful tail flukes in an up and down motion to move throughout water, while  their pectoral flippers steer them through the water.  Dolphins breath through their blowhole which is located on the top of their head.  Their eyes produce special slippery secretion which protects them from foreign objects and from water friction.

The dolphins' main predators are sharks and man.  Usually, dolphins spend most of their time looking for food.  They may hunt alone or in a pod of dolphins.  Dolphins use a sonar system to locate fish by sending out a stream of pulses and clicks.  They communicate with each other by whistling or body language.

The four dolphins that will be described in this web page will be the Bottlenose Dolphin, the Spinner Dolphin, the Hourglass Dolphin, and the Ganges River Dolphin.  The dolphins' appearances, and many other facts will be stated on each dolphin.
