The Hourglass Dolphin lives in the cold remote sub Antarctic and Antarctic waters of the southern hemisphere. They are deep water dolphins and like the temperature to be around 1-10 degrees Celsius. Their scientific name is the Lagenorhynchus cruciger. |

They prey on small fish and are 5 and 1/4 to 6 feet in length. Their weight is approximately 200 to 265 pounds. |

The Hourglass dolphin has a black and white hourglass pattern on their skin. They have a short black beak. The flippers, dorsal fin, flukes, cape, and sides are also black. There are dark patches around each eye of the dolphin. The underside of the hourglass dolphin is white. |

This Dolphin differs from other dolphins because of its high curved dorsal fin, long flippers, and a small but distinct beak. Hourglass Dolphins are very fast swimmers, but their is little known about them. |
