The Labrador Retriever is a very kind and outgoing dog. They are always eager to please their owners. They are not aggressive dogs; in fact, they are very  gentle. Labs are also intelligent and good with children. They are very appealing to a lot of people.
      The lab can either be black, yellow, or chocolate colored. They have brown almond shaped eyes, short hair, and a long, thick otter tail. They also have a very thick and muscular build. Labs also have medium length ears.
     The lab developed in England in the mid 1800's. They are very good swimmers and are usually used as gundogs. In England they are used for hunting and tracking and retrieving game. Labs also make good rescue dogs and are used as guide dogs for the blind.
      The lab is a heavy shedder, and they do not need any trimming. They do need to be groomed at least once a week though. At the most you will spend thirty dollars for food for them. 
      The lab has a very fast learning rate and they make a great jogging partner. They have a life span of about 12 years. The lab loves to swim and chase its tail. The lab is not considered to be an adult dog until it is three years old. The average height of the lab is 22-23 in. and the average weight is 62-72 lbs.
