The Masters
The Masters is the first "major" tournament of the year and it always takes place at Augusta National which is one of the nicest golf courses in the world. The great thing about this tournament is that the older players can play in it if they have won it in years before. This is great because you get to see some of the older golfing legends but at the same time, it limits the competition..
The British Open
The British Open takes place in a variety of places that are usually in Scotland. It is interesting because there are a lot of people that you don't normally see because they play on the European Tour instead of The PGA Tour. A lot of the courses such as the one used this past year (Muirfield) are very open with little to no trees making the weather conditions almost always include some wind.
The U.S. Open
This tournament always takes place in the United States. It is always interesting because they vary the locations of the event. From Bethpage Black in New York, to the famous Pebble Beach in California, this tournament always has great courses. It is one of the most watched tournaments because of the familiarity with the qualifying players and because it is very competitive.
The PGA Championship
The great thing about the PGA Championship is that you get to see many of the upcoming pros that you wouldn't see in the other major tournaments. This is important because you may very well be watching the next Tiger Woods or Jack Nicklaus and not realizing it. For example, Rich Beem won The PGA this year and I am pretty sure that no one had heard of him before he won this.
The Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup is a competition between the European golfers and the American golfers. It is a team event so it may be more or less competitive depending on the teams. It is interesting to watch because all of the players are chosen by skill so you get to see all the best competing together.
