My web page is about horses. This page has gneral information about them. On my links are each about a different breed on horses. The oldest known type of horse lived about 60 million years ago. No all horses are the same. There are roughly seven groups of horses. They are Arabs, Thoroughbreds, Warmbloods, Trotters, Coldbloods, and ponies. |

The normal gaits of a horse are walk, jog, trot, lope, canter, and gallop. The walk is slow, clean, and regular. The jog is a gentle relaxed trot, which keeps the horse active without overtiring. The trot is less tiring for a horse than a lope. The cowboys used this gait to cover ground quickly. The lope is a gentle canter that consists of a sequence of jumps. The canter is faster than the lope and gallop is a fast run. |

A mare is a female horse that is at least four years old. A younger female is known as a filly. Mares are built more slender and are easier going. A stallion is a ungelded male horse at least fours years old, and a gelding is a male horse that has been gelded or castrated. Stallions are powerfully built and have a strong neck. |

To measure the horses' height you need a measuring rod. It is measured from the highest point on its back, known as the withers. Horses' height is traditionally measured by hands. (A hand equals 4 in or 10 cm). |
