This page is about the arabian breed of horses.  It will have general information about the breed.  The Arab originates from North Africa and The Middle East, mainly Egypt.  Purebred Arabs portray clear breed characteristics.  They can trace their ancestry back nearly 5,000 years.  The Arabian horse is renowned for centuries for its tremendous reserves of stamina and ability to withstand the harsh conditions of its desert homelands.

Arabians are normally chestnut, bay, gray, and rarely black with white markings on their legs and head.  Arabians can range anywhere from 14.2-15 hands and though they are mucular they don't weigh any more than 1,100 lbs. This horses' head is a great characteristic of the breed, including their small pointed ears and exceptionally large, expressive eyes.

These horses are exceptionally intelligent, with tremendous stamina.  They are known for their spirited character.  The Arab is first and foremost regarded as an attractive and fine riding horse but are raced in some countries.  Many modern hotbloods are related to the Arab, often through the Thoroughbred.
