This page is about horses of the Appaloosa breed.  The Appaloosa was originally bred in America. Today the Appaloosa is bred in west of both USA and Canada, particularly in Alberta where the Cree Indians bred them.  It was developed by the Nez Perce Indians in the early early 1800s.  They became popular from circuses and horse shows.  This horse is a good youth horse or a very good beginners horse.

The Appaloosa is distinguished easily by their spots and stripes. This breed has spotted hips, mottled lips, white around the pupils of the eyes, wispy tails, and distinctive skin.  The mane is and tail are unusually sunken in.  They have have no original or single 'true' pattern of color that exists in the horses' markings.  This can range anywhere from 950-1,175 pounds and 14-15 hands tall.

Appaloosas are famed for their intelligence, speed, gentleness, and endurance.  These horses have tremendous stamina and are docile and very tough.  Also, they are willing and good-natured.  They are used for riding, and sports such as polo.  Appaloosa's are popular western horses and are used for all forms of western riding.  Their friendly nature make them reliable for riding.  This is a good horse to own because they are very calm and good with children.
