After a nice performance at Trials, Brooke Bennett set her sights on the Olympics.  After missing her cut in the 400 freestyle in 1996, she was very excited to be swimming both the 400 and the 800 freestyle in 2000.  She swam a very good 400, leading the field from beginning to end.  To add to her accomplishments, she defended her title in the 800.  She broke the 800 freestyle Olympic record set by Janet Evans.  She became the only American woman to win two individual gold medals in Sydney.  After this meet, Brooke proved to the public that she was definitely one of the best distance swimmers the world has ever seen.

Diana Munz is one of Brooke Bennett's competitors.  She is a twelve-time national champion from Chagrin Falls, Ohio.  She is also a distance swimmer who has competed in the Olympics and other international competition.  She has done very well considering she was in a car accident four weeks before nationals in 1999 and she had to miss the Pan Pacific Championships where the Olympics were going to be held the following year.  She placed second in the 400 freestyle in Sydney.  (Diana has swam at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh and has some records there!)  She is probably one of the top few distance swimmers in the United States.

Kaitlyn Sandeno is an excellent Individual Medley swimmer just like Maggie Bowen.  Her other events are distance freestyle events such as the 400 or the 800. After a terrific Olympic Trials, she made herself a tough schedule for Sydney.   At the Olympics, she won a bronze medal in the 800 freestyle.  Although being weighed down with a bad shoulder in 2000, she broke a twelve year old record in the 500 freestyle, set by Janet Evans.  With a nickname like "The Energizer", you know she means fast swimming.
