Misty Hyman, an American swimmer at the 2000 Olympics, did the unthinkable. No one ever thought she would win the gold medal in the 200 butterfly in Sydney, but she did. She beat out the world-record holding Australian, Susie O'Neill, to swim the fastest time in history! Susie O'Neill had not lost this event for six years! Misty set American and Olympic records in that event. This was possibly the biggest upset of any Olympics, ever. |

Michael Phelps has drawn a lot of attention to himself in the past couple of years. After an outstanding Olympic Trials, where he became the fourth fastest American in history in the 200 butterfly. He finished second to Tom Malchow at the Trials, and became the youngest member of the Olympic team in 68 years at the age of fifteen. This just impressed the crowds even more. While new on the international scene, he swims like he's been there forever. |

Jenny Thompson is probably a familiar name to most sports fans. While she is an awesome freestyler, she is also one of the best butterfliers on the Olympic team from 2000. She swam the butterfly leg in the gold-medal 400 Medley Relay in Sydney. Not only did she get amazing times in the relay, she is continuing to improve her strokes and times with age. If you have never heard of her name before, you will probably hear it again. |
