Avril was born on September 27, 1984. In the small town of Napanee, Ontario.  Avril was a tomboy growing up. She never missed a chance to be with the boys and prefered their company to girls. She played hockey in the winter and had many times in the penalty box. She would get in fights with the boys and kick thier butts. The boy's moms would cheer her on. In the summer she played baseball.

    She had her first solo when she was 10 years old.  It was for church. She was dressed as an angel. for the Christmas cantata she sang 'Near to a Heart of God'.  When Avril was 12 she had learned how to play her dad's guitar by herself. 

In high school Avril didn't fit in and was made fun of often.  She didn't like the idea that to be popular you had to wear  certain clothes and the other girls didn't accept her.  

    Avril didn't get very good grades in high school.  She admits that she didn't have a very long attention span and was always talking.  She never did her work and failed her tests because she didn't try. Avril frequently got kicked out of class.  When she did she would take her skateboard and skate or write songs.  She expressed her feelings by writing songs.
