On September 8, 1951, an eager crowd waited outside the Desilu Playhouse. Desilu was a combination of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's names. The series was "I Love Lucy". Desi went onstage just before the show began to tell a few jokes and show how the machinery worked. Desi then introduced the cast. William Frawley and Vivian Vance then came out. Desi then said: 'And now the star of the show, the mother of my child, the Vice President of Desilu Productions - I'm the President - My favorite redhead, Lucille Ball!' Lucille then came out and took a bow. She then sat down and picked up "The Mockingbird Mystery" and assumed the position of who would become the most beloved housewife in television history: Lucy Ricardo. Lucille Ball was one of the 20th century's most beloved comedians. Lucille's work and dedication will never be forgotten. And of course, we'll never forget the one and only Lucille Ball. | ||
