and queen of the pride lands.
Zazu, Mufasa's right hand bird is visiting Mufasa's brother Scar. Scar is moping around talking about how he will never be king because the new cub is next in line. He is about to pounce on Zazu when Mufasa comes to his rescue. Meanwhile, in a tree where Rafiki lives, she is choosing a name for the new cub, Simba. She then draws a picture of the cub on the trunk of the tree. As time passes Simba grows up into a brave little cub. One day Mufasa takes Simba to the top of Pride Rock where they live and shows him all of the land that he rules. He tells Simba that one day he will rule over everything that the light touches. But he must never go past the boundaries of the pride lands. As they are talking Zazu flies in to tell Mufasa what's happening that day around the Pride Lands. Mufasa has the idea to practice some pouncing and tells Zazu to turn around. Right as he's about to pounce Zazu tells him that hyenas have crossed over the boundaries to the Pride Lands. Mufasa has to run out on Simba. Simba decides to go visit his uncle Scar. Simba asks him what lies beyond the boundaries of the Pride Lands. Scar, knowing that Simba was full of curiousty, let slip that it was an elephant grave yard. Simba immediately rushed back to tell his friend, Nala what he found out. Their mothers allow them to go but only if Zazu goes with them. Simba comes up with a way to ditch Zazu by telling him how someday he'll be king and singing about what it will be like. Zazu gets a little detained and Simba and Nala slip away. All alone Simba and Nala explore the graveyard. Zazu finally catches up with them and begs them to leave. By then it was too late. Three hyenas, Banzai, Shenzi, and Ed, had found them. They were fantasizing about the dinner that they would have made of the cubs and Zazu when Mufasa showed up and scared the hyenas away. On their way home Mufasa stopped and told Zazu to take Nala home. He needed to talk to Simba alone. Mufasa tells Simba how disappointed he is in him. Simba tells his father that he was just trying to be brave. Then he asks if they will always be together. Mufasa tell him that all the great kings of the past are in the stars that that he will always be there to guide him. Meanwhile in the Elephant graveyard the hyenas are hungry. Scar shows up and tells them to get prepared for the death of the king. He tells them that he plans to become king. Later, Scar brings Simba to the gorge he tells him that his father wants to meet him there. Scar walks away and signals the hyenas to bring a stampede of wildebeests down the gorge. Simba hangs on to a dead branch to save himself. Mufasa shows up just in time to save Simba. When he tries to climb up he makes it but he finds Scar at the top and asks him to help him. Scar grabs his paws and pushes him off. Simba sees this but doesn't know that it was Scar who pushed him off. When Scar and Simba meet each other later. Scar tries to convince him that it was his fault that Mufasa died. He tells him to run away and never come back. Simba runs but Scar sends his hyenas to chase and kill him. The lazy hyenas decided to let him go. Who would ever find out anyway? Simba finally stops running when he finds himself in the middle of a dessert. He collapses from the heat. Then along come Timon, a meerkat, and Pumba, a warthog, to save Simba from the circling buzzards. They all become friends when Timon and Pumba share their philosophy, Hakuna Matata, which means no worries. Meanwhile, back in the pridelands, Scar had taken over. He had Zazu in a cage and was complaining to him that being king was not enough, that he needed to be loved. He decides the only was to be happy is to have children. Then, Nala walks in to protest about the over hunting of the pride. Scar sees that she has grown up and tries to force himself on her. She runs away. She leaves her home but promises herself never to forget her family. Simba, Timon, and Pumba are walking through the jungle trying to find a place to sleep for the night. Simba's friends want to sleep but Simba wants to keep moving. Simba dares Timon to jump over a river. He tries to but gets caught on a tree branch with crocodiles waiting below him. Simba freezes with the flashback in his head of his father. Timon slips and falls in the water. Simba snaps out of it and rescues him. He can't believe he had almost gotten his friend killed. That night the three friends lay and look up at the stars and wonder what they are. Simba tells them what his father had once told him, that the stars are the great kings of the past and that they will always be there to guide you. Timon and Pumba don't think much of his story and leave him alone to think. He thinks of his father and how he promised he'd always be there. He starts to sing of his father. While back in the tree, Rafiki hears his song and knows he's alive. The next day Pumba is being chased by a lioness. Simaba comes between the two of them and doesn't realize until after the lioness flips him that it is Nala. Nala is surprised to see Simba alive. Then she tells Timon and Pumba that Simba is the true king. Simba and Nala walk off together and realize that they have feelings for each other. Nala tells Simba about all the terrible things happening in the pride lands. She tries to convince him to come back but he refuses. Later Rafiki finds him. She tries to tell Simba that his father is still alive. That his father lives in him. Simba doesn't believe her until his father appears to him. He reminds him that he must take his place in the circle of life. Only then does Simba realize that he has to go back. As Simba, Nala, Timon, and Pumba return they find the Pride Lands bare and dry. Timon and Pumba distract the hyenas while Simba looks for Scar. Meanwhile Scar calls for Sarabi to demand to lionesses keep up their hunting. Sarabi tries to explain to him that there is no food or water left and they needed to leave the Pride lands. Scar refuses to believe her and hits her. Just then Simba burst in and charges at Scar. They are shocked to see Simba still alive. When Simba, Nala, and Sarabi confront scar and the hyenas Scar twists Simba's words to make him confess to his father's death.
