Evangelion Mechas and Angels

Eva Unit 00

EVA-00 is the first Eva to be constructed, and is piloted by Rei Ayanami.  In order for the prototype to be a possible option for close combat against Angels, NERV upgraded the Eva after the eighth Angel.  It is highly likely that Unit 00's core was built from Naoko Akagi's (Ritsuko's mother) soul.

Eva Unit 01

EVA-01 has undoubtedly seen far more action in its time than any of other the Evas under NERV's control control.  On several occasions Unit 01 has moved without energy being supplied to it.  Also, it would be assume to Yui Ikari's (Shinji's mother) soul exists within Unit 01's core.  Unit 01 is also different from the other Evas that is wasn't built from Adam, but instead Lilith.  Unit 01 is piloted by Shinji Ikari.

Eva Unit 02

EVA-02 is the first Eva production model to be constructed.  Unit 02 is piloted by Asuka Langley Soryu and is the only Eva to have experienced extreme conditions such as engaging an Angel in aquatic combat.  Unit 02's core was also built from the soul of Kyoko Zeppelin Soryu (Asuka's mother).

Eva Unit 03

EVA-03's existence is very short.  It's first test activation at Matsushiro goes horribly wrong as the dormant thirteenth Angel within EVA-03 awakens, taking control of the it, with the pilot, Toji Suzuhara, trapped within the entry plug.  EVA-03 was destroyed by EVA-01 under the control of the dummy plug.  The pilot of EVA-03 survived the attack, but EVA-03 was completely dismembered.

Angels

These are beings known as Angels, the actual cause of the second impact and trying to cause the third.  Each one has an unique fighting style but the most effective way of defeating them is hand-to-hand combat.  There are exactly seventeen Angels that appeared.
