It is proven that the Chow Chow was originated in China 3,000 years ago. Some canine historians believe that the Chow is actually a mix of the Mastiff and the Samoyed. The fist Chow to be recorded according to the English Kennel Club was in 1894. The way they know the Chow originated all the way back 3,000 years ago is by finding old Chinese artifacts that were statues and paintings of Chows. The Chow came to the Western World during the 18th Century. France and England liked Oriental things such as Chinese porcelain, rugs, jewelry, and paintings. They accepted these things during the early 18th Century but the Chow Chow was introduced to the Western World until the late 18th Century. Queen Victoria was given a Chow in 1865. She had many pets and was very caring with them all. Biographers say that she described her Chow as a "teddy bear", so then the Chow was known as the "teddy bear". Queen Victoria loved her Chow and loved its cuddly qualities.
