Feeding After your Chow is 1 year old 1 meal or 2 small meals a day are fine. Make sure you make the feeding time consistent. If you decide you want to feed your Chow only 1 time a day make sure it is at night because most animals fall asleep after eating a meal. Do not feed your Chow a lot of meat because it will cause your Chow Chow to have skin problems. Other good sources of protein for your Chow are eggs. rice, cottage cheese, and very small amounts of meat. Rice is very good for the Chow because it is very good for the digestive system and a healthy shiny coat. A good recommended dog food to buy is ProPlan. Serve it to your Chow mixed with warm water, not gravy. The average amount of food a Chow should eat is 4 cups, 2 in morning and 2 at might. Your feeding may be different because every Chow is different. Do not feed your Chow rawhide. Rawhide is very dangerous for any dog, it is very bad for your digestive system and has killed many dogs. Most important always remember to have clear, fresh water.

Grooming You will need a steel toothed comb with teeth lose together to groom your Chow. You will need to groom your Chow regularly to keep its coat health and remove the dust and dirt. The Chow will shed 2 times a year they will also shed heavily after whelping. When it is shedding you will need to groom your Chow more than usually. Make sure sure its ears are lean, to clean them take a damp cloth and wipe the ear. Also make sure the eyes are wiped too. |

Bathing You should only bath your Chow 2 or 3 times a year unless it is really needed. The adult's fur should be rough, bathing it too much will take those natural oils out of their fur and make the fur soft and floppy. Some good shampoos to use are special dog shampoos, medicated shampoos, or tear free shampoos. To bath your Chow Chow set it on a rubber mat in your bath tub. Then rinse it with warm water. Next, shampoo your Chow but make sure you do not get the shampoo in its eyes or ears. Make sure you rinse all of the shampoo off of your Chow or hot spots will occur. Wrap up your Chow in a towel and take it to a grooming table to dry off. Make sure you dry the dog completely before you let it outside or it may become sick.
