In swimming you need to know your stroke and be able to swim correctly or else you will get shoulder injuries.  Also you could injure your elbow or knee.  On this page I will describe the strokes and tell you how to swim them.

Butterfly

Butterfly is the hardest stroke to master.  It is also the most tiring stroke.  In butterfly you kick up and down with your feet together.  Then, you move your arms over you shoulder towards each other a little bit.  Remember to reach with your arm when you do the stroke.  When your hands are underwater you separate them a little bit which is about about your leg width.  Then you quickly thrust them out of the water and continue the cycle.   You also have to move your hips a lot.  That is how you swim butterfly.

Backstroke

Backstroke is my worst stroke and my most hated, but I know how to swim it the right way.  It isn't that hard either.  You need to kick your feet fast and hard.  They should be puncturing the surface when your foot goes up and when the other one goes down it shouldn't go too far down.  Your arms should kind of go in a circle.  They exit the water thumbs first, then enter the water pinky first.  When they are in the water you have to pull toward your body in a half circle.  Your left arm should be half way done when your right hand is at then starting position.  Then you continue the cycle.  This how you swim backstroke.

Breaststroke

Breaststroke is my favorite stroke.  I enjoy it a lot.  The kick is like a frog kick.  You bring your feet close to the back of you legs, then propel them out.  Then, click your heels together and start the cycle again. Your arms should spread out thumbs down.  Then, come back together in a down motion.  Lastly, they shoot out together and you glide for a little bit.  Your arms should shoot out when your feet are about to click together.  That is how you swim breaststroke.

Freestyle

Freestyle is my best stroke.  I am more of a distance swimmer because I have a lot of energy.  Freestyle is the fastest stroke, too.  To swim freestyle you can actually swim anything as long as you don't pull on the ropes or walls.  I will teach you the fastest way to swim freestyle.  You kick the same way as backstroke only your on your stomach.  Your arms move in a circular motion. Just like backstroke your arms should be at opposite ends of the cycle.  The cycle is your arms come out of the water with high elbows and then enter hand first.  When your arms are underwater they go out about 1 inch.  Next, they come in and you drive them out of the water.  When you are doing your stroke you should rotate your shoulders.  That is how you swim freestyle.
