You need a swimsuit to swim of coarse.  People buy all different brands and it doesn't matter what brand you buy.

These is a kickboard.  Using a kickboard of coarse helps your kicking.  It helps sprinting because you need to be able to kick good when you sprint.  Some drills are: 20 minute kick, 2 sets of 4 fifties on 1 min. (see "about practice" page for explanation)

These are goggles they are used to see underwater.  If you didn't have goggles you would probably crash into walls and get disqualified.
This is a pool buoy.  You put them  between your legs and use your arms to pull you through the pool.  A good set is six 75's on 1:30 ( see "about practice" page for explanation).

This is a picture of paddles.  They increase your arm strength by increasing the amount of drag on your hand and making you pull harder.  They also make you go faster.  A good set is 3 sets of four 100's.  The first set is with nothing on 1:40.  The second set on 1:30 with paddles.  The third set on 1:20 or 1:25 with paddles and flippers.

These are flippers.  They help you kick more powerfully.  There are many sizes so it doesn't matter what size your feet are because there are many sizes.  A good set is two sets of four 100's.  The first one in each set is hard the first lap easy the rest.  The second is hard first two laps then easy the rest.  The third one is fast the first three laps then easy the last lap.  The last one in the set is fast every lap.  You repeat that set two times.
