          Bodiam Castle     

    This page is about my favorite pieces of architecture... Castles. Castles were built as fortresses that started as early as ancient Rome. Castles served as defensive structures towering ominously over towns, countries and even protected just one person, whether it be the king or his baron. The castle started as simple as a bunch of sticks pushed in the ground, then grew to a tower on a mound, then to where a primitive moat was placed around it. They developed into stone giants, looking over the countryside in times of peace, and in war. This is the castle that I prefer to study, from the Norman Keep, to a concentric castle of fortification fit for a king.
