Feeding

Feeding your dog should not be confusing. Any type of dog food will be good, expensive or inexpensive. Any kind of treats will be fine, too. As part of any dog's diet, you can and should give your puppy a couple of treats a day, and it's a good idea to work them in to your training routine.

The important thing to remember is that you shouldn't give your dog any human food or "table scraps" because he or she will lose interest in their own food.

Exercise

All dogs, but especially puppies, need lots of exercise. Any kind is good, from walking around the block to playing fetch. But you have to remember that puppies are not strong enough to walk far distances. A lot of exercise for them is walking up and down the street once or twice each day.

Toys

Before you get your puppy, you should be fully equipped with plenty of toys. It's good to buy lots of different varieties, such as hard rubber bones and squeaky toys. Just make sure they don't have any parts that could come off and be swallowed. Also, avoid rawhide. It may swell in a dog's throat and choke it. Give the toys to your puppy in moderation, like a new one or two every two weeks.
