Engine

        The engine is one of the most common units in all departments. The engine has a personal compartment so it can take firefighters to the scene. The engine or other wise known as the pumper is usual the first unit on the scene and it is the most important. It gets it name from how it pumps the water out the fire hydrant. It also can pump water out of a lake, stream, river, a pool and any type of water source. That makes very useful in areas were there are no fire hydrants. The engine also pumps water to ladder trucks to the top of the later to shower the fire from above.

Ladder

        The ladder is also very important it. The ladder truck has as ladder usually 75 to 200 feet high. They come in many variations to the this truck there is a tiller where there is a driver in the back witch makes it easier to maneuver in the tight city streets. There is a normal ladder and there is a quint. A quint is a engine and a ladder together it can pump its on water unlike the ladder which needs an engine to pump the water to it. They are very important for big building fires. They can reach windows were people are trapped were other units are not able to reach. They can also reach over buildings and reach fire were ground units can't.  

Ambulance

           The ambulances is starting to be more an more common in fire stations around the world. The ambulance at fire stations means when a call goes out they do not have to make a dispatch to two stations one fire station and the medic station. This also mean most of the fire fighters are trained as EMT so the fire fighters can do everything at a scene.

Rescue Trucks

        The rescue truck is the truck with all the special equipment. This truck will go to cars accidents, chemical spills, mountain climbing accidents, fires, and it will also go to water rescues. The rescue truck cares medical equipment, ropes, air systems, hand tools such as the jaws off life, lights, jacks, hoses, and ladders. Some rescue trucks have a large boom witch they use to lift trapped people out of un reachable areas and they stabilize cars that have flipped over so the people in the car can be rescued.

Brush Fire Truck

        The brush truck is in rural or forest areas. The vehicle is normally or always four wheel drive. this truck is used in forest fires and field or crop fires. This truck usual equip with a pump to pump water out of streams and ponds to use on the fire. It also caries hand held objects like shovels and picks to take out plants and bushes so the fire has noting to spread on so that way it will eventually die. They also have axes and gas powered chain saws to cut down the trees. That way it won't skip from tree to tree. This truck is very versatile and important.
