BEAGLES

Beagles have been around as pack hunters for several hundred years.  They started in England in the mid 1800s.  Beagles can think for themselves and get along with other dogs.  They have an easy-going nature, and they are one of America's favorite dogs.  Although they are very loving, they are also challenging.  Barking is a common thing because of their hunting background.  Grooming is easy because of their short coat, but you must keep their ears clean to prevent infection.  Although Beagles usually stay fairly healthy, they often get skin allergies, ear infections, epilepsy and seizures, hypothyroidism, abnormal heart development, Inver vertebral disc disease, kidney disease, eye problems such as glaucoma and progressive retinal atrophy, bladder cancer and thyroid disease.  As you can see, if you want a beagle it is a good idea to get it from a good breeder offering a health guarantee.  All in all, Beagles are loving pets if they get the right care.

Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers usually weigh 55-80 pounds.  They are patient and affectionate dogs.  They are also very playful and trusting.  They were originally bred as hunting dogs, but now have become a common household pet.  If you wish to own a golden, be aware that they require a lot of exercise and grooming because they shed a lot.  Color varies with the golden from gold or cream to mahogany and red.  Also coat texture is another unsure thing.  Many goldens have a glossy flat coat, but others still have a wavier texture to their hair.  A golden retriever has a dense waterproof undercoat useful for swimming.  This gives them lots of insulation although severe conditions can still cause hypothermia.

COCKER SPANIEL

Although a Cocker may seem born to serve as the ultimate family companion, don't let them fool you.  Cockers sometimes have a very wild and protective temperament.  Spaniels were originally developed as hunting dogs.  The earlier ones came from Spanish dogs.  In the 18th century in England the name Cocker was given to the smaller spaniel that was not a hunter.  But that gradually changed over time. If you decide to obtain a Cocker Spaniel, make sure it has lots of toys to chew on so they don't find refuge in your household decorations.
