June 5, 1967: Pittsburgh Penguins franchise joins the National Hockey League
October 11, 1967: Penguins first NHL game was played at the Civic Arena vs. Montreal. Penguins lose, 2-1, with 9,307 fans on hand. Andy Bathgate scores the Penguins first goal.

October 13, 1967: Penguins first victory as they defeat St. Louis, 3-1, on the road.
October 18, 1967: Andy Bathgate records first hat trick in club history vs. Minnesota.
November 4, 1967: Les Binkley records the club's first shutout (1-0) vs. California.
April 8, 1970: Penguins defeat Oakland, 2-1, in club's first playoff game.
March 3, 1971: Les Binkley records 11th career shutout with Penguins which is still a club record.
February 22, 1975: Penguins defeat St. Louis, 3-2, to establish a 20-game unbeaten streak which is still a club record.
March 24, 1976: Jean Pronovost becomes the first Penguin to score 50 goals in a season and Pierre Larouche becomes the first penguin to record 100 points in one season vs. Boston.
January 30, 1980: Black and gold uniform worn for the first time vs. St. Louis.
June 9, 1984: Penguins draft Mario Lemieux, Doug Bodger, and Roger Belanger in first round of Entry draft, marking the only time in club history that Pittsburgh selected more than one player in the first round. It is also the only time that the Penguins have chosen first, overall.
April 7, 1985: Mario Lemieux scores his 100th point to become the third rookie in NHL history to score 100 points in a season.
December 31, 1988: Mario Lemieux becomes the first player in NHL history to score a goal at even-strength, on the power play, short-handed, on a penalty shot, and into an empty net in one game.
January 21, 1990: Pittsburgh's Civic Arena plays host to the NHL All-Star Game for the first time.
April 25, 1991: With a 4-1 win vs. Washington, the Penguins win their first Patrick Division Playoff Championship.
May 25, 1991: The Penguins become Stanley Cup Champions for the first time by beating the Minnesota North Stars, 8-0.
June 24, 1991: The Penguins visit the White House and meet President George Bush, they were the first NHL team invited to the White House.

January 18, 1992: Pittsburgh has a record 5 players in the NHL All-Star game in Philadelphia. Mario Lemieux, Kevin Stevens, Jaromir Jagr, and Paul Coffey are named to the starting lineup while Bryan Trottier is added to the team in the veteran's category.
June 1, 1992: Penguins defeat the Chicago Blackhawks in 4 games to win back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships.

June 12, 1992: Penguins unveil new team logo at a press conference.
June 23, 1992: Bob Johnson, Rick Kehoe, and Jean Pronovost are named charter members of the Penguin hall of Fame.
January 12,1993: The Penguins announce that Mario Lemieux has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease.
