Appaloosa

    The Appaloosa is a popular ranch and pleasure horse.  They are bred to work hard.  Because of the diversity of the coat pattern, no two Appaloosas look exactly alike. 

 

Arabian

    The Arabian is the oldest pure breed.  It existed around 2500 BC.  It can be used for racing, endurance riding, and long distance.  Arabians tend to be very high spirited.

Clydesdale

    The Clydesdale is an energetic worker with lots of energy.  They are usually used for pulling work on forests.  They are tall and powerful horses.  They traditionally come in the colors bay, brown, or black and have white feathery hair on their legs. 

 

French Trotter

    French Trotters are usually used for racing.  They are big horses with a gliding trot.  They are often black, brown, bay, or chestnut.

 

Morgan

    The Morgan is mostly used for pleasure riding, or western show.  They are very courageous, spirited, and intelligent horses.  Morgans are bay, brown, black, and sometimes, chestnut. 

 

Mustang

    The Mustang is the original "Wild West" pony. They are very agile and quick which makes them hard to ride. They are also very difficult to tame and train.  They can come in any color.

Paint

    The Paint, also known as the Pinto, or Calico horse descends from the Spanish horses of the 16th century.  The Paint is favored by American Indians for its color.  It is ridden mostly Western.  

 

 

Quarter Horse

The Quarter horse was the  first breed to be developed in the Americas.  It is an all-purpose riding horse, used especially for western 

Saddlebred

    The Saddlebred is a striking horse with substance and quality.  They are very intelligent horses with a docile temperament which makes them easy to train.  They can be found in any solid color.

 

Standardbred

    The Standardbred is known for its courage and toughness.  It is usually used for harness racing.  Standardbreds are traditionally bay, brown, black, or chestnut.

 

Tennessee Walker

    The Tennessee Walker is a very popular family horse.  They are said to be more comfortable to ride than any other horse.  They can be any color, but black, bay, and chestnut are usual.

 

 

Thoroughbred

  Thoroughbreds are usually used for racing.  They have lots of energy and tend to be excitable.  Thoroughbreds always come in a solid color.
