

Aaliyah Dana Haughton was born on January 6, 1979 in Brooklyn, New York. She got her name from her grandmother. Some nicknames Aaliyah had were: Baby Girl, in which the public often referred to her as, Wonder Woman, Lili, Lee, and Liyah. In 1986, she made her first on-stage debut as an orphan in the Gesu Catholic School's production of "Annie" at age seven. In 1989, at age nine, Aaliyah auditioned for the televisoion show "Family Matters." At the age of eleven, she sang "My Funny Valentine" on the televison show "Star Search." At the age of only fifteen her first album was released. She titled her album, "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number." She titiled her album this because she wanted people to hear her music before they thought about her age. Aaliyah graduated from the Detriot High School of the Performing Arts with a 4.0 GPA. At the age of twenty-one Aaliyah was in Joel Silvers feature film, Romeo Must Die.
