On August 25, 2002,  Aaliyah had just finished shooting her video for "Rock the Boat."  As they boarded the plane, the Cessna 402,  the baggage handlers told them that the plane was too overloaded with suitcases.  Aaliyah was tired and just wanted to get home, so the  plane soon depart from the airport.  At about 6:50 pm, shortly after take-off, the Cessna 402 crashed. The plane was said to have crashed exactly 200 feet from the end of the runway.

Sadly, Aaliyah, along with eight others died in that trajic accident.  Gina Smith (28)Aaliyah's product manager at Blackground Records, Keith Wallace (44), Virgin Records  director of video production Douglas Kratz (28), Scott Gallin (41)Aaliyah's bodyguard, Eric Foreman (29)Aaliyah's personal hair stylist, hair stylist Anthony Dodd (34), and make-up artist Christopher Maldonado(32).  Also killed in the crash was the planes pilot, identified as L. Maradel.  Today, the cause of the crash is still unknown.  Authorities suspect it was engine failure because the plane took off in such good weather or because the plane was to overloaded with luggage.
