The Who was formed by members from many West London schoolboy groups.    In 1959, Pete Townshend and John Entwistle joined the Confederates, while Robert Daltrey and Keith Moon joined the Detours.  Both bands played in night clubs all over London.  The Confederates had trouble with money, and when Daltrey asked Townshend and Entwistle to join, the Confederates disbanded.  Townshend went to art school in London to study American music such as R&B and Bob Dylan.  Then, the Detours went for a tour around the country.  They were the biggest thing in England, then the Beatles and the Rolling Stones made a CD.  The Who then decided to tackle America.  They made many hit CD's in America, such as Who's Next and Who Are You, their biggest hit.  The band stuck together, until Keith Moon died in 1978.  That's when the musical made by the Who, Tommy, was made.  They were the biggest band with no personal rock history.  They eventually replaced Moon and kept on touring. As they say, the rest is history.
